CXB (formerly Astrodon) L2P Light Pollution Luminance Filter

Our L2P filters are designed to be used the same way that you would use a regular Astrodon Luminance filter, either by itself or as part of a LRGB filter set. The L2P filters are recommended for imaging in urban and/or light polluted areas.

If you have dark skies, the regular Astrodon Luminance filter from the set is what you want to use. But if you have light polluted skies, you are better off with the Astrodon L2P Luminance filter because it blocks some of the light pollution. Many people get both and use the L2P in light polluted skies (Bortal 5, NELM 6.0, SQM 20.4, or worse) and the regular Astrodon Luminance in darker skies.

Our L2P filters are designed to be used the same way that you would use a regular CXB (formerly Astrodon) Luminance filter, either by itself or as part of a LRGB filter set. The L2P filter differs from our standard CXB (formerly Astrodon) Luminance filter in that, in addition to the standard Luminance transmission curve and cut offs, the L2P filter is designed to suppress the common emission lines generated by artificial lighting, yet allow the important nebula emission lines to pass, thus enhancing the contrast of astronomical objects, particularly emission nebulae. Simply put, the L2P filter is designed to replace a standard CXB (formerly Astrodon) Luminance filter in light polluted locations to provide light pollution suppression and increased contrast.

Unlike other light pollution suppression filters, L2P filters are specifically designed for balanced color transmission. The balanced transmission allows color photographs to be taken with minimal color cast to broadband emission objects such as stars, galaxies and globular clusters.
